DOT'S HOME: A Journey Through Time and Family History
DOT'S HOME is a captivating single-player, 2D, narrative-driven video game that immerses players in the life of a young Black woman living in her grandmother’s cherished home in Detroit. The game's unique premise allows players to travel through time, experiencing pivotal moments in her family’s history where the themes of race, place, and home intersect, leading to challenging decisions.
As an interactive experience, DOT'S HOME provides a profound insight into the systemic issues that shape our understanding of race and place. Players are placed in scenarios that reflect the realities of redlining, urban renewal, and gentrification, compelling them to make critical choices about living conditions. The game prompts players to ponder the essential question: "How did your family end up where they are today, and how much choice did they really have in that journey?"
DOT'S HOME is a product of the Rise-Home Stories project, a collaborative effort between multimedia storytellers and housing and land justice advocates. Over three years, this team has worked to reimagine the past, present, and future of communities by reshaping the narratives surrounding them.
This update ensures that DOT'S HOME remains compatible with the latest Android systems, enhancing the user experience while continuing to deliver its powerful narrative on race, place, and the concept of home.
