The game is played on a board featuring dotted lined polygons known as "cages". Typically, each cage has a number in its top left corner, which represents the sum of all digits within that cage. The rules are straightforward yet challenging:

1. The number at the top left corner of each cage is the sum of all the digits in the cage.
2. A digit can only appear once in each cage.
3. For cages without a sum, only rule 2 applies.
