It blends strategy, roguelike mechanics, and deckbuilding action into a self-contained gaming experience.
Jump in and seize your opponents' cards to assemble powerful armies and master arcane abilities.
One platform that doesn’t come up often is Google Play Games and its cross-platform capabilities. But that’s shifting today, as it’s receiving a significant update with the upcoming release of 9 Kings!
Developed by Sad Socket and originally published by Hooded Horse, 9 Kings is a roguelike strategy game making its way to mobile through the porting work by Playdigious. If you’ve ever thought that only Total War and Europa Universalis offered deep strategy experiences, this could be a game-changing alternative.
In 9 Kings, you take on the role of one of nine rulers—guess which one you’ll become. As the regent of your realm, you’ll shape your capital and build your forces within a strategic grid. The game features deckbuilding mechanics, with each king offering a unique collection of spells, units, and buildings to draw from.

Naturally, each king brings their own strengths and weaknesses that you’ll need to master. Once you defeat them, you can claim their deck and add it to your own collection! This opens up endless possibilities for powerful combinations of abilities, units, and spells. Just keep in mind—you’re not the only one hunting for these powerful cards.
I don’t typically use Google Play Games when playing on PC. I usually stick to native PC platforms. But 9 Kings could be a standout for players on both mobile and desktop, especially with its fast-paced mix of classic strategy, roguelike planning, and deckbuilding.
Still, it’s not the only standout strategy game available on mobile right now. If you’re interested in exploring more but aren’t sure where to begin, check out our list of the best strategy games on Android for some top recommendations.
