Simu Liu: Marvel Keeps Cast in Dark After Holland, Ruffalo Leaks

Shang-Chi makes his anticipated return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During the explosive Avengers: Doomsday livestream, Marvel confirmed Simu Liu's participation in the upcoming ensemble film - though the actor remained characteristically tight-lipped about his involvement when his name appeared alongside other MCU veterans on the iconic chairback reveals.

The recent Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement notably featured numerous X-Men alumni. Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), and James Marsden (Cyclops) will all appear, confirming substantial X-Men involvement. Grammer recently debuted in the MCU via The Marvels' post-credits scene, while Stewart previously appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This stellar lineup inevitably raises speculation: could Avengers: Doomsday secretly be Marvel's long-awaited Avengers vs. X-Men adaptation?

"I knew I'd be involved to some degree," Liu revealed during a Jennifer Hudson Show appearance. "But they never share casting details with us - Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo's past spoilers changed everything. Now Marvel operates on strict need-to-know basis."

Liu referenced Holland's infamous MCU leaks and Ruffalo's accidental spoilers of Avengers plot points - incidents that led Marvel to implement rigorous anti-spoiler protocols across its entire cast. The Barbie star admitted being awestruck by his legendary co-stars: "Seeing Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart announced... these are acting titans. That realization was mind-blowing."

Liu debuted as Shang-Chi in 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings but hasn't reprised the role since. With Avengers: Doomsday scheduled for May 1, 2026, details remain scarce despite the star-studded cast announcements. However, more revelations are expected in the coming months - intentional or otherwise.

Meanwhile, MCU enthusiasts have shifted attention to Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom-themed 60th birthday invitation, sparking fresh speculation about potential future Marvel projects.
