Disney has officially announced the future locations of its upcoming Coco and Avatar attractions at Disneyland Resort, offering fans a glimpse into the next era of immersive storytelling at the park.

The new Coco-themed attraction will be built in areas currently used for backstage operations near Disney California Adventure’s Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier. This groundbreaking ride—first revealed at D23 2024—will mark the first-ever attraction inspired by the Academy Award-winning Pixar film. Drawing creative influence from classic Disney rides like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean, the attraction promises to bring the film’s vibrant world to life using cutting-edge Audio-Animatronic technology that will "bring our skeletal cast of characters to life in a big way."

Construction on this immersive experience is set to begin in the backstage area this fall, signaling the start of an exciting transformation.

Meanwhile, the new Avatar-inspired land will occupy a portion of the current Hollywood Backlot area. As part of this change, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will close permanently in early 2026. While this marks the end of an iconic attraction, it also makes way for a bold new adventure based on Avatar: The Way of Water and future films in the franchise. Though still in the early stages of development, Disney has promised more details about the Avatar destination—including construction timelines—to be released in the future.

Fans can look forward to similar Pandora-inspired environments as seen at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom since 2017, but with fresh innovations tailored specifically for Disneyland.

For those nostalgic over the loss of Monsters, Inc., there’s good news: a brand-new Monsters, Inc.-themed land—including the first-ever suspended coaster in a Disney Park—is already open at Disney World’s Hollywood Studios.

In addition to these major entertainment developments, Disney also confirmed plans for a new parking structure and transportation hub on the east side of the Disneyland Resort. Replacing part of the Manchester cast member parking lot, the facility will offer around 6,000 parking spaces, along with shuttle and rideshare zones, security screening areas, and improved traffic flow access via Disney Way.

A key feature of the new complex will be a pedestrian bridge spanning Harbor Boulevard, leading to a refreshed arrival esplanade that enhances guest access to and from the resort.
