Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 co-director Naoki Hamaguchi has reassured fans that the development team is carefully "striking a balance" for the trilogy's conclusion, ensuring the story progresses while maintaining a tighter pace.
In a conversation with ScreenRant, Hamaguchi addressed feedback about the series' pacing and lengthy segments. When asked if he agreed that some parts of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth felt overly long, he responded, "Regarding the duration of specific sections, particularly in Rebirth, I genuinely don't believe they were unnecessarily extended. I think modern players simply have an abundance of games and activities, which can create a sense of urgency to finish things quickly."
Nevertheless, Hamaguchi acknowledged the criticism, stating, "As we develop the final part of the trilogy, we are working to balance how narrative arcs are presented and distributed to make the overall experience feel more concise."
During the same interview, Hamaguchi—whose career inspiration came from playing 1994's Final Fantasy VI—cited other influential titles like The Witcher series and Fable. He expressed particular enthusiasm for Ghost of Yotei, confessing, "I can't wait to get home and continue playing it."
Since the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in early 2024, RPG enthusiasts have eagerly awaited news about the trilogy's final chapter. Development is known to have begun as early as June 2022, with Square Enix stating last year that it aims for a launch by 2027. Anticipation heightened further when the team announced it had finalized the story earlier this year.
Hamaguchi recently emphasized that, despite Square Enix's previous comment that Rebirth "did not meet expectations," the second installment has performed "very well" on both PC and PS5. This success, he noted, is fueling efforts to deliver a "high-quality third installment." Co-director Tetsuya Nomura also acknowledged the demand for updates on both Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 and Kingdom Hearts 4 last month, happily reporting that development is "progressing really smoothly."
As the wait continues, you can explore why the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 team "will not cheat" in bringing Final Fantasy 7's iconic airship to life.
