Harrison Ford, the iconic Indiana Jones, has praised Troy Baker's performance as the character in the video game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, stating that it proves "you don't need artificial intelligence to steal my soul." Speaking with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Ford expressed his satisfaction with Baker's portrayal, emphasizing the talent and ingenuity involved. He declared that Baker's "brilliant job" didn't require AI assistance.
Released in December, The Great Circle offers an "authentic," albeit potentially non-canonical, addition to the Indiana Jones franchise. This contrasts with the less-than-stellar reception of the latest film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, released in 2023. This disparity in critical response may influence future franchise decisions, potentially favoring video game adaptations over further film installments with Ford.
Ford joins a growing chorus of creatives voicing concerns about AI's role in filmmaking and media. He echoes sentiments expressed by other prominent figures like Tim Burton, who described AI-generated art as "very disturbing," and Nicolas Cage, who deemed it a "dead end." The concerns extend to the voice acting community, with actors like Ned Luke (Grand Theft Auto 5) and Doug Cockle (The Witcher) criticizing AI's potential to usurp their livelihoods and income. While acknowledging AI's inevitability, Cockle highlighted its inherent dangers and the threat it poses to voice actors' financial security.
