Keanu Reeves Unhappy With Constantine 2 Scripts: Report

Good news for Keanu Reeves fans: discussions about a Constantine sequel have been ongoing—but recently, one co-star revealed Reeves isn't entirely satisfied with the script drafts.

"There's been a lot of debate because Keanu hasn't warmed up to the scripts," Peter Stormare told The Direct. "While the original gained cult status over time, studios now want explosive action—car chases, fight scenes, spectacle. But Constantine wasn't that kind of film."

Stormare, reprising his role as Lucifer, noted Reeves wants the sequel to preserve the original's dark, supernatural tone rather than becoming another action franchise.

"Keanu told me, 'I've done John Wick—this film is about spirituality and demons,'" Stormare shared. "We discussed keeping God's appearance similar but updated—like Lucifer's look, though I'm older now. Keanu wants authenticity to the original."

The concern? Warner Bros. might push for Marvel-style spectacle, given Constantine's DC Comics roots. While Reeves met with DC Studios, over-the-top effects could undermine the story's essence.

"The original succeeded as a slow burn," Stormare emphasized. "No need for constant gunfights or CGI—let it breathe. Not every comic adaptation needs blockbuster treatment."

Director Francis Lawrence remains attached, though production timelines stay unclear.
