Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the Switch 2 Joy-Con's innovative mouse controls directly on the Home screen. This exciting feature has been the subject of much speculation since the initial reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, and last month, we received the official word that the new Joy-Con can indeed operate in "mouse mode." This mode allows players to slide the controllers across a surface, using the analog sticks to mimic left-click and right-click actions, just like a traditional mouse. Furthermore, it's possible to use two Joy-Con in mouse mode at the same time, one in each hand, or combine one in mouse mode with another in standard mode for a versatile gaming experience.
The latest development, as demonstrated on the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter, showcases the Joy-Con 2's mouse controls in action on the Switch 2's Home menu. A tweet from Stealth (@Stealth40k) on May 11, 2025, included a visual demonstration:

According to Nintendo, "If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen." To activate the cursor, simply position the Joy-Con 2 on a flat surface and move it as instructed. "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus," Nintendo further explained, noting that these controls are functional on the Home menu and within compatible software. To switch back to thumbstick controls, just reorient the Joy-Con 2 horizontally.
While the full extent of mouse-compatible games remains undisclosed, Nintendo has demonstrated the technology working seamlessly with Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree, Metroid Prime 4, and the unique wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.
The eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to launch on June 5. Pre-orders opened on April 24, with the console maintaining its price of $449.99. The pre-order phase was as successful as anticipated. For more detailed information, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
