Pokémon TCG Pocket developer Creatures Inc. has issued 1,000 Trade Tokens to players—enough for only two substantial trades—while continuing to address issues with the controversial trading mechanic. Players logging in today will find these tokens in their Gift menu without explanation. Creatures Inc. acknowledged player feedback and apologized on X/Twitter.

The trading feature, introduced last week, was met with significant criticism. Players described the system as "hilariously toxic," "predatory," and "downright greedy," citing its integration with the game's existing pay-to-play mechanics. These mechanics restrict pack openings, Wonder Picking, and now trading, unless players spend real money. The high cost of acquiring Trade Tokens—requiring the deletion of five cards to trade one of the same rarity—was a major point of contention.

Eight days after the controversial release, Creatures Inc. acknowledged player concerns, admitting that restrictions were hindering casual enjoyment of the trading feature. While promising to address complaints by offering necessary items as rewards in future events, the recent Cresselia ex Drop Event (February 3rd) failed to deliver on this promise.

Many players believe the trading system is designed to boost revenue for Pokémon TCG Pocket, which reportedly generated $200 million in its first month, before trading was even available. This suspicion is fueled by the inability to trade 2-Star rarity cards or higher, suggesting that readily available trading would undermine the game's monetization strategy. One player reported spending approximately $1,500 to complete the first set, with a third set released just last week, highlighting the significant financial investment required.
