Moderators of the SnyderCut subreddit have removed a post urging fans to review bomb the upcoming Superman film and have issued a statement to their community.

On Monday, DC Universe head James Gunn reacted to the post, which had called for a campaign to rally support for the SnyderVerse on July 11.

The original user encouraged followers to “post spoilers everywhere,” “leave negative ratings on review platforms,” and “reserve tickets online without completing the transaction.”

The post concluded, “Gunn fired the first shot and dismantled the Snyderverse—now is our chance to fight back.”

After a Threads user notified Gunn of the post, he downplayed its potential effect on the success of Superman.

“Lol, we’ll be fine,” he replied. “I doubt the eight people who listen to that person—who, let’s be honest, is probably a guy—are going to change the outcome.”

r/SnyderCut moderators later clarified that they deleted the post roughly two hours after it was published, and by then it had very limited engagement. Still, a screenshot had already circulated widely on social media, eventually reaching Gunn on Threads.

In a locked thread, the moderators distanced themselves from the post and its message:

“Our team did not approve this post and does not support its content. As an open community, submissions don’t require pre-approval. A post appearing here does not imply endorsement. Moderators remove content that violates our policies or Reddit’s guidelines. There was no doubt this post breached our rules, in both letter and spirit, and had to be taken down immediately.

“The post wasn’t so much controversial as it was universally condemned. We respect everyone's right to vote with their wallets by skipping a film, but we do not endorse dishonesty or manipulation aimed at preventing others from seeing it.”

This isn’t the first time the renowned Zack Snyder fanbase has made news. SnyderVerse supporters contributed to Warner Bros.' 2021 release of the Snyder Cut of Justice League. Last year, Suicide Squad 2016 director David Ayer had to address online backlash after endorsing Gunn’s Superman and its first trailer.

Ayer—whose critically panned Suicide Squad was part of Snyder’s now-defunct DCEU—had originally taken to X/Twitter to ask fans not to launch a new ‘Ayer Cut’ push around the Superman trailer’s release date. Clearly frustrated by the ensuing social media reaction, Ayer later announced he was “stepping back” from the conversation.

In a recent Rolling Stone interview, Gunn briefly addressed some SnyderVerse fans hoping for Superman and his new DCU to fail.

“I don’t mind it,” he stated. “In fact, I think it’s helpful. You don’t want everyone on your side. I have one actor—a top-five cast member in Superman—who reads everything online. He gets really upset by negative comments. I told him, ‘Look, the trailer was 97–98% positive. These critics actually help us—not everything should look perfectly positive.’

“It’s okay to face opposition now and then. Some reactions get absurd. Every time something is released, no matter how well received, there’s always some ‘major controversy.’ Remember when everyone was upset that the sun caused Superman pain?”

In that same Rolling Stone interview, Gunn also shared why he dropped subtitles for this July’s Superman and next summer's Supergirl.
