Publisher Paradox, behind Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, is now issuing PlayStation Store pre-order refunds as it implements "significant changes" following backlash over its initial plan to lock certain clans behind DLC.

The controversy began when it was confirmed Bloodlines 2 would launch with four core clans: Brujah, Tremere, Banu Haqim, and Ventrue. While offering four distinct starting paths for character development, this represented a narrower selection compared to the beloved original Bloodlines, which featured seven clans at launch.

Developer The Chinese Room later announced two additional clans, Lasombra and Toreador, but only as part of the Shadows and Silk add-on pack. This DLC is priced at $21.99 separately or included in the $89.99 Premium Edition, whereas the standard edition costs $59.99.

With this DLC available from day one, many players felt the "complete" clan roster had been fragmented, requiring an extra payment for the full launch experience. As expected, the fan community voiced strong dissatisfaction.

At gamescom 2025, a Paradox representative told IGN that the move was a "business-informed" decision, which further fueled criticism. Then, last month, a Discord post from the publisher hinted at a major pre-launch adjustment. Now, Paradox has taken the concrete step of issuing PlayStation Store pre-order refunds.

"Hello," began a post on the official Bloodlines 2 social media account. "We are implementing adjustments and will share the full details on September 17. Major changes require time, and we are committed to doing this properly.

"PlayStation Store pre-orders will be refunded on September 8. You will be able to pre-order the game again ahead of its launch on October 21.

"Thank you for your patience; we will share more information soon!"

Fans are now speculating whether Paradox will integrate the Lasombra and Toreador clans into the base game at no extra cost. The prevailing sentiment online is that this is the expected outcome.

"Honestly, only fully including them in the base game at its standard price will win me back," one social media user responded to the announcement. "Otherwise, I'm skipping this title."

"The only way to salvage this situation and rebuild community trust is to release the base game with all clans available," suggested another. "DLC should focus on new side stories and cosmetics, or these could be part of higher-tier editions like a Deluxe or Premium version, leaving the core narrative and gameplay intact."

Some fans expressed appreciation for the developer's responsiveness. "I'm very excited and hopeful to see your solution regarding the two clans initially locked behind DLC," one fan commented. "Thank you for listening to community feedback and addressing the issue. I'm sure refunding pre-orders was not an easy decision."

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has endured a challenging development cycle with several high-profile delays, making this a crucial release for Paradox. The publisher is undoubtedly keen to maximize its chances for success, and reversing its initial DLC strategy may be the most viable path forward at this stage.
