- Mortal Kombat 2 writer Kevin Tancharoen has drawn a striking comparison between fan excitement for the upcoming film and the massive anticipation surrounding Avengers: Endgame. In recent interviews, Tancharoen likened the energy he's sensing from fans to that historic moment when Marvel fans united for the culmination of the Infinity Saga. "The level of excitement I'm seeing from Mortal Kombat fans right now—it's like Avengers: Endgame all over again. People have waited so long for this. They’ve invested in the lore, they’ve felt the pain of the long hiatus, and now they’re ready to see it all come together in one explosive, emotional, and brutal payoff." Tancharoen, who is penning the sequel to the 2021 reboot, emphasized that the film isn’t just about high-octane fights — it's about legacy, redemption, and the emotional weight of characters like Liu Kang, Kano, and Mileena facing their destinies. He noted that the franchise’s core themes of honor, vengeance, and destiny resonate deeply with audiences who see it as more than just a video game adaptation. This comparison to Endgame highlights not only the cultural significance the franchise now holds but also how far it’s come since the original 2021 film, which redefined how video game adaptations are perceived in Hollywood. With Mortal Kombat 2 set to hit theaters in 2025, fans are already treating it like a long-awaited event — and Tancharoen clearly sees the parallels to the Marvel phenomenon that changed movie history.
