ScratchJr is inspired by the renowned Scratch programming language (http://scratch.mit.edu), which has empowered millions of kids aged 8 and up worldwide. But ScratchJr is specially designed for younger children, with a user-friendly interface and programming language that's perfectly suited to their developmental stage. We've carefully crafted features that align with young children's cognitive, personal, social, and emotional growth, ensuring a fun and educational experience.

We believe coding is a new form of literacy that everyone should have access to, just like writing. Coding helps kids organize their thoughts and express their ideas in a unique way. In the past, programming was thought to be too challenging for most people, but we're changing that with ScratchJr. As children code, they learn to create and express themselves using the computer, not just interact with it. They develop problem-solving and project design skills, along with sequencing abilities that are crucial for future academic success. ScratchJr also incorporates math and language in a fun and engaging context, boosting early childhood numeracy and literacy. ScratchJr is the result of a collaboration between the Developmental Technologies group at Tufts University, the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab, and the Playful Invention Company. The Android version was implemented by Two Sigma, with stunning graphics and illustrations crafted by HvingtQuatre Company and Sarah Thomson.
