- After fans of the Warhammer 40,000 universe voiced strong backlash over the removal of a now-iconic Space Marine scream from the original Dawn of War intro cinematic in the upcoming Definitive Edition, developer Relic Entertainment heeded the outcry and made a triumphant return to form. The original 2005 Dawn of War intro—featuring the chilling, thunderous roar of a Space Marine as he charges into battle—became a legendary moment in gaming lore. Fans affectionately referred to it as the "Space Marine scream," and it had long served as a signature audio cue for the grim darkness of the 41st millennium. When the initial trailer for the Dawn of War: Definitive Edition was released, fans were dismayed to discover the scream had been omitted—replaced by a more subdued, modernized audio track. The omission sparked immediate and passionate reactions across social media, with thousands sharing memes, fan edits, and petitions demanding its return. In a rare and heartfelt move, Relic Entertainment responded not only with acknowledgment but with action. The studio announced that, after listening to community feedback, they had fully restored the original Space Marine scream to the new cinematic—exactly as it was in the 2005 release. The updated trailer was re-released, and fans erupted in celebration. "Nothing says 'Warhammer 40K' like a Space Marine screaming through the void of war," said Relic’s creative director in a statement. "We heard you, and we’re proud to bring back one of the most iconic audio moments in franchise history. The scream isn’t just a sound—it’s a promise of vengeance." The restored intro has since gone viral again, hailed as a masterclass in fan engagement and a testament to the enduring legacy of Dawn of War. It's not just a game update—it's a love letter from developer to fans. Now, as the Definitive Edition prepares for release, one thing is certain: the scream has returned, and it's louder than ever.
