The 2025 Sony Bravia XR8B replaces last year’s XR8 model and features a W-OLED panel, delivering image quality on par with Samsung’s S85F and LG’s B5 OLED TVs. As a true OLED display, the Bravia XR8B offers near-instant response time, infinite contrast, and perfect black levels. It outperforms all other display types in most viewing conditions—except in very bright rooms with minimal light control, where OLEDs are less effective than Mini LED or LED LCD alternatives. The TV supports HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and DTS for superior audio and video performance.

Beyond its OLED advantages, the XR8B is built for gaming, which isn’t surprising given Sony’s role in creating the PlayStation 5. It features a native 120Hz refresh rate and two HDMI 2.1 ports that enable 4K gaming at up to 120fps. Additional gaming features include variable refresh rate (VRR), auto low latency mode (ALLM), and seamless integration with Xbox consoles.

Is this TV good for Nintendo Switch 2?

Although the Nintendo Switch 2 is a modern console, its TV compatibility requirements are more lenient than those of the PS5 or Xbox Series X. When connected via the dock, the Switch 2 outputs up to 4K at 60fps. It can reach 120fps only when resolution drops to 1080p, but the data bandwidth needed for both modes is similar. For optimal gameplay, 4K at 60fps is preferred. Still, the Switch 2 will greatly benefit from the Bravia XR8B’s exceptional OLED picture quality—just as the original Switch OLED offered a major visual upgrade over the base model.

The Bravia XR8B also includes Sony’s “Acoustic Surface Audio” technology, which positions the speakers directly behind the screen. This design eliminates extra bezel space and creates the illusion that sound originates from the image itself. The built-in speakers outperform standard TV audio and rival many standalone sound systems—typically costing several hundred dollars more.

Finally, Sony’s OLED TVs run on Google TV, a user-friendly smart platform that supports voice commands via Google Assistant. You can also use your Android phone as a remote control for added convenience.
