As Crucial's flagship PCIe 4.0 SSD, the T500 features a Phison E25 controller paired with 232-layer Micron TLC NAND flash. It delivers outstanding performance, with sequential read/write speeds up to 7,300/6,800 MB/s and random performance reaching 1.15M/1.44M IOPS. Its performance is on par with other leading SSDs such as the WD Black SN850X, Samsung 990 Pro, and SK Hynix P41 Platinum, while often being the most affordable option. The T500 also includes a dedicated LDDR4 DRAM cache, unlike many competing drives in this price range that rely on host memory buffer (HMB) instead. Crucial supports this drive with a 5-year warranty.

The Crucial T500 is an excellent choice for expanding your PlayStation 5's storage. It meets all of Sony's requirements, including a minimum read speed of 5,500MB/s and a PCIe Gen4x4 interface. The pre-installed aluminum heatsink saves you the trouble and cost of adding one separately.

The Top PS5 SSDs to Buy in 2025

In previous console generations with fixed internal storage, gamers were typically limited to the built-in capacity. With the PS5, Sony took a different approach by including an internal M.2 PCIe slot, allowing users to install a standard SSD and expand storage. This was a welcome change, especially given the relatively modest 825GB of usable space. Now, you can install high-performance PC SSDs like the Corsair MP600 Pro LPX—our top recommendation—to store more games and enjoy loading speeds nearly as fast as the console's internal drive.
