In recent years, discussions about a potential sequel to *The Last of Us* have dominated online forums. Despite the polarizing reception to the second game, fans remained hopeful that Naughty Dog would address any perceived shortcomings in a possible *The Last of Us Part III* or expand the universe through a spin-off. However, Neil Druckmann, the head of Naughty Dog, delivered a surprising statement that caught even the most dedicated fans off guard.

During a joint interview with screenwriter Craig Mazin, focused on the adaptation of the *The Last of Us* game series, Druckmann opened up about his experiences following the release of the sequel amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. He admitted to feeling unwell and overly fixated on various aspects, which only intensified when left alone with his thoughts—and especially when he had internet access. It was during these moments that Druckmann encountered reviews and debates about his game, leading him to question whether he had indeed created something subpar and perhaps even ruined the beloved franchise.

When directly asked about the possibility of a third installment, Druckmann sighed, acknowledging the anticipation of the question. Yet, he firmly stated that fans should not hold their breath for a new *The Last of Us* game, hinting that this might mark the end of the series.
