PUBG: Blindspot is a refreshing new spin-off from PUBG: Battlegrounds that’s currently in development and was playable on the show floor at IGN Live. It's a fast-paced 5v5 top-down tactical shooter featuring a classic team deathmatch mode – one that hooked us even amid the show’s chaos – alongside an upcoming Demolition mode where squads use traps and obstacles to outsmart their opponents. Often described as a top-down version of Rainbow Six Siege, this game challenges you to rely on strategy just as much as reflexes to come out on top.
Leave your FPS instincts behind—this is a top-down tactical PvP game where wit matters as much as speed. Each map is packed with corners, windows, and doorways designed to emphasize line of sight, forcing you to hunt enemies before they catch you from behind. You have a full view of the map, but only spot opponents within your cone of vision or those visible to teammates. It sounds straightforward until someone snipes you through a window while you’re focused on a distant doorway.
Although we didn’t get to test Demolition Mode, it promises a more complex experience than the 5v5 deathmatch, requiring deeper strategy and teamwork. Production Director Seungmyeong Yang shared details at IGN Live: “Demolition Mode is a familiar format in games like Counter-Strike or Valorant. One team attacks while the other defends, with defenders blocking entry points and attackers trying to breach the building. It was exciting to see players engage with it—they really seemed to enjoy it!” This mode is largely responsible for the Rainbow Six Siege comparisons, although the top-down view offers a fresh perspective.

The keyboard and mouse controls resemble a twin-stick shooter setup and may take a moment to get used to. You move with WASD and adjust your cone of vision with the mouse. To aim and fire, hold the right mouse button—which slows your movement, forcing you to balance speed with accuracy. Once you’ve mastered the basics, use the mouse wheel and keyboard to aim for headshots, body shots, or crouching enemies.
As with any team shooter, your five-member squad composition is critical. The demo I played included 10 distinct characters, each with unique appearances and loadouts. Preferring a direct approach, I leaned toward operators like Collision, a bearded cowboy armed with a Winchester 1300 shotgun and booby traps, or Kayak, equipped with an O12 combat shotgun and remote sticky bombs. Support players can choose Fanatic, who carries a P90 and First Aid Kit, or Buddy, a sniper with scanning drones. Some characters, like Dropdown with her dystopian Harley Quinn flair, are worth picking for style alone—even if toxic gas grenades aren’t your usual choice.
While the full game doesn’t have an official release date yet, a PC beta is scheduled for August. Stay updated by following the game’s official Steam page.
