The much-anticipated series *Alien: Earth* is set to make its debut with the first two episodes on **August 12**, airing at **8pm ET** on **Hulu** in the U.S., and internationally via **FX** and **Disney+** at **8pm PT / ET**. Following this premiere, new episodes of the eight-episode season will roll out every Tuesday.
Set in the year **2120**, the show takes place well after the events of *Prometheus* and just two years before the infamous incident aboard the *Nostromo* seen in the original *Alien*. Created by Noah Hawley, *Alien: Earth* follows a thrilling narrative where the deep-space research vessel *USCSS Maginot* crash-lands on Earth, leaving a young woman named **Wendy** (played by Sydney Chandler) and a group of tactical soldiers to uncover a chilling secret—one that brings them face-to-face with an existential threat to humanity.
For context, the upcoming film *Alien: Romulus* acts as an interquel positioned between *Alien* and *Aliens*, offering additional depth to the timeline.
In this era of the *Alien* universe, Earth is no longer ruled by governments but by five powerful megacorporations: **Weyland-Yutani** (the franchise’s primary antagonist), **Prodigy**, **Lynch**, **Dynamic**, and **Threshold**. Humanity shares the planet with cyborgs and synthetics—humanoid robots powered by artificial intelligence. However, everything changes when the CEO of Prodigy unveils a groundbreaking innovation: **hybrids**—synthetics infused with human consciousness. Wendy is not only the first hybrid prototype but also a key figure in the ongoing corporate race for immortality, a recurring theme throughout the *Alien* series.
What makes this story particularly intriguing is what happens after Weyland-Yutani’s spaceship crashes into Prodigy City. Wendy and the other hybrids come across unknown life forms described as “more terrifying than anyone could have ever imagined.” This hints at the possibility of encountering multiple types of creatures beyond the classic Xenomorph—with reports suggesting there may be as many as **five distinct entities** introduced in the series.
In the year 2120, Earth is under the control of five dominant corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold. During this Corporate Era, humans coexist with cyborgs (individuals with both biological and artificial components) and synthetics (AI-driven humanoid robots). The balance shifts dramatically when the brilliant founder and CEO of Prodigy Corporation unveils a revolutionary technology: hybrids—synthetic beings enhanced with human consciousness. The first hybrid prototype, known as “Wendy,” ushers in a new age in the pursuit of immortality. After a Weyland-Yutani spacecraft collides with Prodigy City, Wendy and the other hybrids are thrust into confrontation with unknown life forms more horrifying than anything previously imagined.

Back in January of last year, showrunner Noah Hawley addressed his decision to diverge from the mythology established in *Prometheus*. While he acknowledged discussions with Ridley Scott about various elements of the *Alien* universe—including connections to the prequels—he ultimately chose to embrace the "retro-futurism" of the original films rather than follow the bioweapon storyline introduced in *Prometheus*. According to Hawley, the original *Alien* lore provided a richer foundation for the tone and direction of *Alien: Earth*.
This marks an exciting time for fans of the franchise. In addition to *Alien: Earth*, production is underway on *Alien: Romulus 2*, and rumors suggest a crossover with another sci-fi giant—*Predator: Badlands*—is also in development. With so much content on the horizon, the *Alien* universe continues to expand in thrilling new directions.
