Dell has recently enhanced its legendary Alienware Area-51 lineup of prebuilt gaming PCs, expanding the options for graphics cards. Previously limited to the RTX 5080, you can now configure your Alienware Area-51 with the powerhouse Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, paired with the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU, starting at $5,499.99. The good news continues with Dell promising an early April ship date, so you won't be waiting long to get your hands on this beast of a machine.

The $5,500 configuration might be the "base" model for an Alienware Area-51 gaming PC equipped with a 5090 GPU, but don't let that fool you—the specs are anything but basic. This system boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU, 32GB of DDR5-6400MHz RAM, and a 2TB NVMe SSD. The Core Ultra 9 285K, Intel's latest flagship CPU, delivers exceptional performance for both gaming and workstation tasks. While it doesn't offer the significant uplift we hoped for over the i9-14900K, it remains the best Intel has to offer. The CPU is cooled efficiently by a 360mm all-in-one liquid cooler, and the system is powered by a robust 1,500W 80Plus Platinum-rated power supply.
Dell unveiled the refreshed Alienware Area-51 gaming PC at CES 2025. The new chassis maintains the iconic look of the 2024 R16 model but features significant aesthetic and cooling redesigns, along with updated components. The I/O panel has been repositioned to the top of the case, and the tempered glass window now covers the entire side panel, eliminating side panel vents. Air intakes are now located at the bottom and front, promoting a positive airflow design that helps keep the interior dust-free. Internally, the system includes a new motherboard, faster RAM, and a more powerful power supply to support the latest generation of CPUs and GPUs.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has emerged as the most powerful consumer GPU available. Despite Nvidia's focus on software updates, AI features, and DLSS 4 technology for enhancing gameplay, the 5090 offers a 25%-30% increase in raster performance over the RTX 4090. It also comes with more (32GB vs 24GB) and faster (GDDR7 vs GDDR6) VRAM. The RTX 5090 is hard to find at its retail price and often sells for $3,500-$4000 on eBay.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 FE Review by Jackie Thomas
"The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has officially taken the performance crown from the RTX 4090, albeit with a less dramatic generational leap than in the past. In terms of traditional non-AI gaming performance, the RTX 5090 provides one of the smallest uplifts we've seen recently. However, when DLSS 4 is supported, the performance gains are substantial, though 75% of the frames are AI-generated."

Amazon offers a couple of Skytech-branded RTX 5090 gaming PCs at a more appealing price of $4,799.99, though they don't ship immediately. These systems come equipped with the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor, which offers strong gaming performance, though it falls short in workstation tasks compared to Intel's offerings.
