Wednesdays are set to become a movie lover’s paradise as AMC Theaters rolls out a 50% discount on tickets every hump day to draw crowds during the midweek lull. That’s right — prices are cut in half.
Per a company statement reported by Bloomberg, the all-day deal will use the standard adult evening ticket price as its baseline and kicks off on July 9. Even better, premium formats like IMAX and 4DX will also enjoy the 50% markdown, a major win given the steep cost of these screenings for solo viewers or groups.
The movie industry has faced turbulent times since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted theatergoing, leading to a sharp drop in ticket sales. Recovery has been gradual, with lingering challenges, but AMC CEO Adam Aron remains optimistic.
Aron noted that while the first quarter saw dismal attendance, which he called an “outlier,” the box office has since rebounded strongly, fueled by hits like A Minecraft Movie and Sinners.
The executive highlighted robust ticket sales since April 1, a claim backed by the stellar performance of A Minecraft Movie, which has grossed $408 million so far, and Sinners, with $215 million and climbing.
With the summer blockbuster season heating up, including titles like Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning and Disney’s live-action Lilo and Stitch, plus July releases Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, AMC’s bold discount strategy is poised to boost theater turnout significantly.
