Now that all the major studios and publishers have made their biggest announcements through numerous summer showcases, IGN's Summer of Gaming is still in full swing. We've already highlighted the season's biggest and best trailers, but it's time to shift our focus to larger questions. Which upcoming games have us most eagerly counting down the days until their eventual release?

That brings us here today to spotlight our most anticipated games and determine which one has us the most excited. Our top choice was selected from a pool including every reveal across the various shows we watched, plus the games we were able to go hands-on with. We also factored in the enthusiasm shown by our readers and viewers for the many newly announced titles, considering comments, trailer view counts, and our own personal excitement levels.

Before we reveal our top pick, let's take a moment to reflect on some of the other incredible games we've seen and played over the past couple of weeks. Here are a few of our other favorites:

5. Ninja Gaiden 4

While Soulslikes have dominated the action-RPG landscape for the last decade, the hack-and-slash genre is experiencing a full-blown renaissance, thanks to titles like Ninja Gaiden 4. Team Ninja and PlatinumGames, two of Japan's finest character-action developers, have teamed up for this direct sequel to 2012's Ninja Gaiden 3.

The high-speed action game burst onto the scene with a stylish new trailer, but our 25-minute hands-on session left us craving significantly more gameplay. Exceptionally fast and intensely gory, it transforms you into the ultimate killing machine—provided you possess the dexterity to juggle enemies and execute complex combos. Fortunately, the wait won't be too long; Ninja Gaiden 4 launches on all platforms on October 21, 2025.

4. Silent Hill Remake

It may have been just a logo and a hint of nostalgic music at the end of Konami's Press Start livestream, but the announcement that Bloober Team, the developer behind the Silent Hill 2 remake, will next tackle the original Silent Hill in collaboration with Konami sent our minds racing.

The first Silent Hill launched one of the most terrifying and beloved video game franchises in history. While it was ahead of its time in many ways upon its 1998 release, it hasn't aged gracefully. A remake handled with the same care and attention Bloober gave to its sequel is a genuinely thrilling prospect.

3. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls

Step aside, Marvel vs. Capcom; there's a new superhero fighting game on the block. The major surprise of PlayStation's latest State of Play was Arc System Works' Marvel Tokon, a 4v4 tag team fighter featuring Marvel heroes like Iron Man and Captain America, reinterpreted through a uniquely Japanese aesthetic. Arc System Works is already acclaimed for visually stunning and highly competitive fighting games like Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ. With Disney's powerhouse backing, Marvel Tokon could propel this beloved but niche developer to new heights. The detailed mechanics and depth shown in the lengthy reveal helped it edge out our excitement for another superhero fighting game, Invincible VS, which was also announced during the Summer of Gaming. Furthermore, Fighting Souls' 4v4 format, as opposed to 3v3, adds extra heroes into the mix, further amplifying our anticipation.

2. 007 First Light

IO Interactive has finally unveiled its long-awaited 007 game, and—surprise!—it looks incredibly fun. While the developer's usual suited assassin, Agent 47, is an emotionless killing machine, the young James Bond in 007 First Light appears to be having the time of his life as he embarks on the path to becoming one of the world's most famous secret agents (a mission that admittedly seems somewhat contradictory).

The trailer has everything you'd want from a great James Bond game: exotic locations, sports cars, laser-equipped wristwatches, a bit of flirtation, and plenty of explosions. Combine that with IOI's statement promising a level of freedom comparable to the Hitman: World of Assassination trilogy, and 007 First Light becomes a game we simply can't wait to play. With a planned 2026 release, this will likely be our first major Bond adventure since Daniel Craig's departure. The only reason it isn't our overall most anticipated game is that we haven't had a chance to play it yet, so we can't definitively speak to its quality. We'll be keeping our fingers crossed for a hands-on demo at Gamescom 2025.

So, those are four reveals of varying scales that have us hyped for future releases. However, our top pick—the game we're most excited about—is arriving relatively soon, and it's one we've already had the opportunity to play. Given our love for its predecessors, we're hopeful it will continue the series' legacy and deliver one of this generation's finest survival horror experiences. Our most anticipated game from the Summer of Gaming is...

1. Resident Evil Requiem

Capcom executed a masterful bait-and-switch during Summer Game Fest 2025, hinting that there would be no official Resident Evil 9 announcement, only to formally reveal Resident Evil Requiem just minutes later. I suppose delayed jump scares are just part of the Resident Evil formula.

The next mainline entry in the acclaimed survival horror franchise will feature a new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, who has a connection to a character from a lesser-remembered Resident Evil title. More excitingly, Capcom announced that Resident Evil Requiem will be playable in both first- and third-person perspectives at launch, merging the best elements of modern Resident Evil games. We played a short preview build and were impressed by how the first-person view emphasizes pure horror, while the third-person mode delivers added action-packed excitement.

Grace also seems like a compelling new character; her background as an FBI analyst means she's more comfortable behind a computer than with a firearm. This will make her—and us—even more terrified when confronting Requiem's new stalker monster, a hulking figure whose grotesque frame completely blocks hallways.

All of this, combined with Capcom's current winning streak of excellent games, means we are incredibly eager to play the next mainline Resi title when Resident Evil Requiem launches on consoles and PC on February 27, 2026.
