Critical Role star Robbie Daymond is joining the cast of Assassin's Creed Shadows next week, bringing a new recruitable ally for protagonists Yasuke and Naoe.
Daymond will portray Rufino, a character he first brought to life for a promotional Assassin's Creed Shadows one-shot. A first look shows Rufino dressed in a Portuguese-style doublet and sporting an elaborate moustache.
Rufino arrives as a recruitable ally in the game's next update, scheduled for Wednesday, June 25. This marks the latest piece of free post-launch story content, following a previous mission that crossed over with Dead by Daylight.
So far, Shadows' extra story missions have been concise, offering roughly 20 minutes of gameplay each. However, as one of only a handful of recruitable allies in the game, Rufino has the potential to leave a more lasting impression.
His exact role remains to be seen. Can he be summoned in combat like other allies? Is romance an option, as it is with some companions? Or will he simply be a new presence in your hideout? We'll learn the answers next week.
Okay so imagine: feudal Japan, hidden blades… and Critical Role? Robbie’s in. Luc’s in. You should probably be in too.#ACShadows #CriticalRole #ACxCR pic.twitter.com/guT6cagwE7

Ubisoft previously confirmed the June update will also introduce new difficulty settings, gameplay immersion options, and an open-world alarm system to increase tension. A highly requested feature to toggle headgear visibility in cutscenes will also be included.
Looking ahead, Ubisoft is developing a New Game Plus mode and additional story content, including more crossovers. Later in 2025, Shadows will receive its first major expansion, "Claws of Awaji," which continues the main story and adds a new Japanese region to explore.
