ASUS Xbox Handheld First Images Leak Online

If photos of ASUS’ Xbox-branded handheld device, codenamed Project Kennan, have indeed leaked, they mark an exciting step forward for fans of portable gaming. First reported by 91mobiles and brought to light by Eurogamer, two images of the ASUS ROG Ally 2—available in white and black—are believed to have surfaced through Indonesia’s certification body, referencing a now-deleted listing on the U.S.’s FCC website.

Equipped with buttons aligned with Xbox’s iconic design (Y, B, A, and X), the leaked images showcase a distinctive feature in the black variant, where an Xbox button sans a defined 'X' sits prominently to the left of the thumbstick. Although details remain sparse, the tech specs hint at potential differences between the white and black editions.

Adding intrigue, Windows Central's Jez Corden mentions that the devices are currently under evaluation at Microsoft HQ, suggesting a possible unveiling around May 20th, 2025. This aligns with previous reports from IGN indicating Microsoft’s broader ambitions for gaming hardware, including a next-gen Xbox in 2027 and an Xbox-branded handheld possibly launching later in 2025.

A teaser from ASUS Republic of Gamers’ Twitter account last month hinted at the collaboration, prompting acknowledgment from the official Xbox account via a playful animated response. Meanwhile, Microsoft gaming chief Phil Spencer has previously stated that a first-party Xbox handheld remains several years away, focusing instead on its 2027 hardware plans.

As anticipation builds, the successor to the Xbox Series X is reportedly nearing completion, with Xbox president Sarah Bond emphasizing Microsoft’s commitment to delivering groundbreaking advancements in gaming technology.
