One of the most intricate components of *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land* is the Synthesis mechanic, which is deeply integrated into every facet of the game. Every resource you gather and every weapon you craft is connected to this system. Here's how you can master it to enhance your gameplay experience.

Synthesis Types in Atelier Yumia

In *Atelier Yumia*, there are three distinct types of Synthesis:

  • Regular Synthesis: This is conducted at an Alchemist’s altar. It's used to craft weapons, armor, battle accessories, magical items, and necessary materials. You unlock the Atelier early in the game, allowing you to return and Synthesize at any time. In areas where construction is possible, like cleared manabound zones and campsites, you can build a Simple Altar for regular Synthesis.
  • Simple Synthesis: Accessible through the radial menu outside of battle, this allows you to craft items like bandages, gauntlets for ziplines, and various repair kits to fix treasure chests, ladders, and more, provided you have the resources.
  • Building Synthesis: Available only on specific plots of land via the radial menu, this involves creating storage chests and wall hangings. Although not officially labeled as Synthesis, it's referred to as such in the story, so keep that in mind.

How to Synthesize Equipment in Atelier Yumia

Synthesis in Atelier Yumia.

Regular Synthesis at altars is the most complex form. To craft an item like a gun staff for Yumia, you first need to find the recipe while exploring. You can also upgrade existing recipes using particles from mana fountains at a Recipe Recall Station. Here's how to proceed at an Alchemist’s altar:

  1. Select the type of gun staff you want to create.
  2. Choose Synthesis Skills if they're unlocked in the skill tree.
  3. Select the initial Alchemy Core to build upon:
    • Effects Alchemy Core: Enhances the selected skills.
    • Quality Alchemy Core: Increases the quality level of the finished item.
    • Trait Alchemy Core: Boosts the number of Trait Crystal slots available for socketing.
  4. Fill the slots of each Alchemy Core with collected resources.
  5. Collect mana fragments to further improve quality.
  6. Finalize the Synthesis process to create the item.

To craft powerful items early in the game, unlock Synthesis Skills from the Synthesis section of the skill tree as soon as possible. These skills provide flat damage and quality boosts and enable item duplication, conserving resources.

You can enhance item quality by adding resources to all three Alchemy Cores. Use the left or right bumper to fill slots in a specific core. Collecting mana fragments (yellow sparkles) for all three cores significantly strengthens your items, a step you should take unless crafting a quest item.

When selecting resources, prioritize those that match the element type of specific slots, identifiable by a blue outline. Organize your resources from the submenu to prioritize higher-quality ones, though you may sometimes want to focus on effects instead.

If the complexity of this mechanic is overwhelming, opt for the auto-Synthesis feature after selecting your Synthesis Skills. The game excels at crafting optimal items, allowing you to conquer the final boss on Normal difficulty with ease.

With these insights, you're now equipped to maximize the Synthesis mechanic in *Atelier Yumia*.
