Disney's recent announcement of delays for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars means fans will wait longer to see Earth's mightiest heroes unite on the big screen again.
Avengers: Doomsday is now slated for release on December 18, 2026, seven months later than originally planned, with Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027. Amid these shifts, Spider-Man remains a key topic of discussion.
Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will return in the eagerly awaited Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026. The film will continue Peter’s journey after the events of No Way Home, where his identity was wiped from the world’s memory.
Before the delay, Spider-Man: Brand New Day was expected to follow Avengers: Doomsday, potentially serving as a bridge between Doomsday and Secret Wars with a multiverse-heavy storyline typical of the MCU’s current phase.
Now, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day arriving before either Avengers film and yet to begin production, fans are hopeful for a more grounded narrative, focusing on the Marvel universe’s street-level adventures.
Imagine the earlier scenario: Avengers: Doomsday likely ends on a major cliffhanger, similar to Avengers: Infinity War, compelling audiences to return for its resolution. Spider-Man, as a prominent Avenger, would likely play a role—or his absence would need explanation. In that context, Brand New Day would have had to either tie into that cliffhanger, be set earlier, or sidestep those larger stakes.
“This reshuffle changes everything for Spider-Man 4,” one fan posted on Reddit about the delay and Brand New Day’s new position. “It no longer has to fit between both Avengers films in the timeline. It feels freer now.”
“If Spider-Man: Brand New Day avoids a delay, it’s almost certain it won’t be a multiverse battle movie,” another fan noted, referencing the comic’s Secret Wars setting where Marvel’s heroes are trapped in a holding location.

Spider-Man fans are eager to see the character return to his roots, swinging through New York’s streets rather than being pulled into cosmic Avengers conflicts. For many, Disney’s delay is welcome news.
“This is the best update we’ve had for Spider-Man 4,” one fan commented.
“With Brand New Day now coming before Doomsday, it opens the door for a grounded story, which aligns with recent casting rumors and reports,” another wrote, pointing to speculation about villains suited for a New York-based adventure.
Earlier this month, reports surfaced that Liza Colón-Zayas, known for her role as Tina Marrero in FX’s The Bear, joined the cast of Brand New Day. Fans speculate she may portray the mother of Miles Morales, the alternate Spider-Man whose popularity soared in Sony’s Spider-Verse animated films and who is rumored to debut in live-action.
As part of last night’s schedule changes, Disney also dropped an untitled Marvel project previously set for February 13, 2026. Many believe this was a placeholder for the long-delayed Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali, which now appears unlikely to materialize in this MCU saga.
Other Marvel release dates, including November 6, 2026, and November 5, 2027, have been reassigned as “Untitled Disney” films. If these are not Marvel projects, the MCU’s film slate will be relatively sparse in the coming years.
In 2025, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will hit theaters in July, while Disney+ will debut the TV series Ironheart and Wonder-Man.
Next year’s Disney+ lineup includes the second season of Daredevil: Born Again in the spring, a one-off Punisher special presentation, and Vision Quest, the Paul Bettany-led series now quietly in production.
