Atuel Documentary Game Set for Android and PC Release

Matajuegos revealed today that Atuel, their surreal documentary game, will launch on PC and Android later this year. The Steam page is live, allowing players to pre-register, with Google Play pre-registration expected soon.

Matajuegos, an indie cooperative from Argentina, first released Atuel on itch.io in September 2022. The game gained acclaim for its innovative mix of documentary storytelling, experimental mechanics, and breathtaking, dreamlike visuals.

Atuel earned the ‘Innovation in Experience Design Award’ at IndieCade 2022, among other accolades, for its distinctive documentary approach. It has been featured at prestigious venues like the Marché du Film at Cannes and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Curious about the game? Watch the trailer below.

What’s Atuel, the Documentary Game, All About?

Atuel explores the Atuel River Valley in Argentina, a stunning region impacted by climate change. The game offers an immersive experience where players transform into various animals and elements of the ecosystem, merging with the environment.

One moment, you’re gliding through the skies; the next, you’re flowing as the river itself. The game weaves in real interviews with historians, biologists, geologists, and local residents, who share insights into the region’s history, current challenges, and climate-driven future.

Matajuegos partnered with The 12.01 Project, an international documentary team, to craft these narratives. The game’s visuals, inspired by the Cuyo desert, create an almost otherworldly atmosphere.

While awaiting Android pre-registration, visit the Steam page or official website for details. The mobile version will support seven new languages and full controller compatibility.
