Rocksteady Studios is recruiting a Game Director for its next major project, as announced in a Warner Bros. Discovery job posting on February 17th.

The successful applicant will be responsible for crafting a high-quality game design, encompassing core gameplay, player progression, combat systems, and mission structure. Ideal candidates possess experience across diverse genres, including third-person action, open-world adventures, and melee-focused combat titles. This has fueled speculation about a potential return to the Batman franchise, the series that propelled Rocksteady to prominence.

The requirements closely mirror the Batman: Arkham series, contrasting with the gunplay-centric Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. As the hiring process is in its early stages, the game is likely still in the conceptual phase. Industry expert Jason Schreier suggests that a new single-player Batman title, should it materialize, is several years away.

Rocksteady's latest release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (February 2nd, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam), received mixed critical reception (Metacritic score: 63/100, user score: 4.2/10).

Previous reports hinted at a possible Rocksteady Batman project, potentially inspired by the Batman Beyond animated series.
