Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Dominates US Game Sales in 2024

Circana's data reveals Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 as the top-selling game in the United States for 2024, marking the Call of Duty franchise's sixteenth consecutive year at the top of the US market. While overall US gaming spending dipped 1.1% year-over-year, a trend Circana attributes to decreased hardware sales, spending on add-ons and services saw growth of 2% and 6% respectively. This highlights a shift in consumer spending within the gaming industry.

EA Sports College Football 25 claimed the title of most popular sports game, launching to consoles in July.

Black Ops 6 and its companion title, Warzone 2, are set to launch their second season on January 28th, featuring a ninja-themed update and a highly anticipated crossover with the Terminator franchise.

Critical acclaim for Black Ops 6 centers on its diverse and engaging missions, preventing gameplay monotony and consistently surprising players. The game's revamped movement system, allowing for omnidirectional running and shooting while in various states (falling, prone, etc.), and refined shooting mechanics have also garnered significant praise.

The approximately eight-hour campaign length has been lauded by many reviewers and players alike as a well-balanced experience, neither too brief nor overly extended. The zombies mode also received considerable positive feedback.

However, Black Ops 6 hasn't been without its detractors. A significant portion of Steam reviews cite technical issues as a major drawback, with frequent crashes and unstable server connections hindering progression through the story mode. These performance problems represent a notable area of concern for players.
