Experience points (XP) are essential in Minecraft Bedrock Edition, playing a key role in enchanting equipment, repairing tools, and combining items on an anvil. An XP farm offers a reliable and efficient method to collect experience while also securing useful drops from mobs. This guide will help you build the simplest XP farm in Minecraft Bedrock, designed for players at any experience level—and it's completely feasible in survival mode.
XP is central to many of Minecraft's core mechanics. It powers enchantments for tools, armor, and weapons at the enchanting table, and it enables item repair and enchantment merging using an anvil. Equipping items with the Mending enchantment lets them repair themselves as you gain XP, so a steady supply of experience helps your favorite gear last longer without needing replacement.
An XP farm is invaluable whether you're a relaxed player or a dedicated explorer. Instead of hunting mobs across the landscape, a farm funnels them directly to you in a secure and controlled setup. With the right design, you can rapidly level up while gathering valuable resources like bones, arrows, and rotten flesh.
Of the many XP farming strategies available in Minecraft Bedrock, the mob spawner farm is the simplest to construct. Unlike advanced farms that use complicated redstone systems, this type uses a natural dungeon spawner to generate a steady stream of hostile mobs, giving you constant access to XP with minimal effort.
Spawners typically produce zombies, skeletons, or spiders, and can be found in underground dungeons throughout the world. Once you locate one, it becomes the core of your XP grinding operation, delivering a renewable source of mobs.
Your first step is locating a mob spawner, which generally appears underground between levels Y=0 and Y=50. Dungeons are small cobblestone or mossy stone brick chambers, recognizable by the spinning mob cage at the center. To find one, explore deep caves, abandoned mineshafts, or ravines. Occasionally, spawners may also appear inside strongholds or similar underground structures.
Before constructing your XP farm, assemble these items:
Pickaxe: Use iron or better for breaking stone and collecting materials.Water Buckets: You'll need 2–4 buckets to set up water streams.Building Blocks: Cobblestone, stone, or wood for shaping the farm.Signs or Slabs: Helpful for redirecting water and controlling mob movement.Torches: Necessary to light the area during construction.Hoppers and Chests: Optional, for automating loot collection.Sword: Ideally enchanted with Looting III to boost drop rates.

Follow the instructions below:
Clearing and Preparing the Spawner Room – First, light up the dungeon by placing torches around the spawner and walls so mobs can't interfere while you build. Then, expand the room to 9×9 blocks, keeping the spawner centered. Make the ceiling 3 blocks above the spawner and dig 2 blocks down from the floor to improve mob movement and spawning efficiency.
Setting Up Water Flow and Collection – With the room cleared and expanded, dig 1-block-deep trenches along the edges and guide them into a central collection spot. Place water in the corners to create currents that push mobs toward a single chute.
At the collection point, dig a drop shaft about 22 blocks deep. This height ensures mobs survive the fall with very low health, allowing you to finish them with one hit. At the bottom, build a 3×3 killing area. Position slabs at head height so you can attack mobs safely without them hitting you back.
Adding Item Collection – Under the slabs where the mobs land, install hoppers connected to chests for automatic collection of dropped items. This setup not only helps you earn XP, but also gathers bones, arrows, and other mob drops without extra work.
Activating and Using the Farm – When the structure is ready, remove the torches near the spawner to allow mobs to generate. They will spawn, get pushed by the water into the drop chute, and arrive in the killing chamber weakened and ready to be defeated. By eliminating them repeatedly, you'll gain levels fast. Using a Looting-enchanted weapon boosts item drops, improving the farm’s overall efficiency.
