Crafted by Treyarch and Raven Software, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 marks the first back-to-back release in the Black Ops series. Matt Cox, General Manager of Call of Duty, emphasized that “our team’s goal from the beginning was to deliver a seamless, consecutive series experience that honors the distinct identity of the Black Ops franchise.”
No official release date has been shared yet. Here’s the official description:
Equipped with advanced technology, David Mason and his team must confront an enemy who exploits fear as their ultimate weapon.
Set in 2035—over four decades after Black Ops 6—the game unfolds during a period of global instability, shaped by the aftermath of Black Ops 2 and the events of last year’s Black Ops 6. The co-op campaign makes a triumphant return, now that the franchise has skipped it in Black Ops 6 (players can still experience the story solo). Multiplayer will feature next-gen weapons and entirely new maps. A fresh chapter in the Round-Based Zombies mode will plunge players into the depths of the Dark Aether.
According to Variety, Black Ops 7 will star Milo Ventimiglia, Kiernan Shipka, and Michael Rooker. Ventimiglia takes on the role of David Mason, Shipka portrays Emma Kagen, and Rooker returns to reprise his role as Mike Harper from Black Ops 2.Releasing just one year after Black Ops 6, some fans may view Black Ops 7 as a stop-gap title, similar to how 2023’s Modern Warfare 3 was perceived after 2022’s Modern Warfare 2.
However, Cox affirmed that Black Ops 7 “delivers everything players expect from Call of Duty, and we’re eager to share more of what our teams have been building when we reveal more later this summer.”
Tyler Bahl, Head of Activision Publishing Marketing, added: “We’re building on the massive excitement and community energy we’ve seen in the Black Ops universe. This is the first time we’re releasing two Black Ops games back-to-back, so we’re giving players more time to dive into live seasons and enjoy the full experience across Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone before we move forward into Black Ops 7.
“Our official teaser captures the intensity and chaos that’s coming in Black Ops 7’s story.
“Releasing consecutive Black Ops games also gives our teams a unique chance to draw on our creativity and fully explore the shift from a ’90s setting to the futuristic 2035 world we’re building in our marketing.”
Confirmed as well is that Black Ops 7 will remain on last-generation consoles, launching on Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC through Xbox PC, Battle.net, and Steam. Day-one access will be available on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. No mention of the Nintendo Switch 2 was made in the announcement.
