The highly anticipated reboot of the Narnia series, helmed by Greta Gerwig, the acclaimed writer and director behind the blockbuster hit "Barbie," has added Carey Mulligan to its stellar cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan will join an ensemble that includes former James Bond actor Daniel Craig, "Sex Education" star Emma Mackey, and screen legend Meryl Streep.

Gerwig, who will once again take on the dual roles of writer and director, is set to bring a fresh perspective to C.S. Lewis's beloved fantasy series, "The Chronicles of Narnia." The upcoming film will adapt the series' prequel novel, "The Magician's Nephew," which is set before the events of the iconic "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."

Carey Mulligan, celebrated for her numerous awards and nominations including Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes, is slated to portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the story's young protagonist, Digory. Daniel Craig will embody the film's titular magician and Digory's uncle, while Emma Mackey will play a younger version of the series' notorious villain, the White Witch. Meryl Streep will lend her voice to the role of Aslan, the majestic and god-like talking lion central to the Narnia saga.

This isn't the first time the magical world of Narnia has been brought to the silver screen. A previous trilogy, released between 2005 and 2010, adapted the first three books of Lewis's series: "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," "Prince Caspian," and "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader." Those films featured standout performances by Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson as the voice of Aslan.

Gerwig's adaptation of "The Magician's Nephew" marks her first major project since the success of the 2023 "Barbie" movie, which starred Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling and garnered eight Academy Award nominations, ultimately winning for Best Original Song.

Fans can look forward to "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew" hitting theaters in 2026.
