CD PROJEKT RED Unveils 'The Witcher 4': A Deep Dive

The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 4, starring Ciri as the protagonist.

Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, takes center stage as the next generation of Witchers steps into the spotlight. The teaser depicts Ciri intervening in a village gripped by superstition, where a young woman is slated for sacrifice to appease a monster. Ciri's intervention reveals a far more sinister plot than initially apparent.

While an official release date remains elusive, considering the development timelines of Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077, a 3-4 year window is a reasonable estimate for Witcher 4. Given the early stage of development, a release within this timeframe seems plausible.

Platform specifics are yet to be announced; however, considering the anticipated timeline, a next-gen-only release (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC) is likely. While a Switch port was achieved for Witcher 3, it’s doubtful for this iteration, though a future Switch 2 release might be possible.

Although gameplay details are scarce, the CGI trailer hints at familiar elements: potions, Signs, and combat. Ciri's chain, used for both trapping monsters and channeling magic, appears to be a new addition to her arsenal.

Voice actor Doug Cockle (Geralt) has confirmed Geralt's presence in the game, albeit in a supporting role, further fueling speculation that he may act as a mentor figure for Ciri.
