"Until Dawn Hits Theaters: Streaming Date Awaited"

Video game adaptations are currently riding a wave of popularity, with recent releases like A Minecraft Movie, the Devil May Cry anime, and The Last of Us Season 2. Adding to the list, Sony's 2015 survival horror game Until Dawn is now being transformed into a movie.

Until Dawn originally captivated audiences during the peak of the YouTube "Let's Play" era, offering an engaging experience whether you were playing or watching. The game was celebrated for its high-quality cinematics, impactful in-game choices, and memorable jump scares. However, the movie seems to deviate significantly from the source material, sharing little more than the name and a few key details. As noted in IGN's review, the film attempts to carve its own path with mixed results. Despite this, my curiosity and love for horror films keep me intrigued.

If you're planning to watch Until Dawn in theaters or are curious about its streaming availability, here are the details you need:

Until Dawn was released in theaters on Friday, April 25. You can find showtimes at major theaters like Fandango, Regal Theaters, AMC Theaters, Cinemark Theaters, and Alamo Drafthouse.

Until Dawn Streaming Release Date

Until Dawn will eventually be available to stream on Netflix, thanks to a licensing agreement with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Recent Sony releases, such as Venom: The Last Dance and Saturday Night, have appeared on Netflix four months after their theatrical debut. Following this pattern, Until Dawn should be available to stream on Netflix around August 25.

What About VOD?

Before it hits streaming services, Until Dawn will be available for purchase or rental on digital platforms like Prime Video. The exact VOD release date can vary, often depending on box office performance, but with shorter theatrical windows, Until Dawn might be available to rent by the end of May.

Although inspired by the 2014 survival horror game, the Until Dawn movie introduces new characters and a unique storyline. Here's the official synopsis:

"One year after her sister disappeared, Clover and her friends head to the remote valley where she vanished to search for answers. Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they soon encounter a masked killer who murders them one by one. However, when they mysteriously wake up at the beginning of the same night, they're forced to relive the terror over and over again."

From IGN’s Review of the Original Until Dawn Game:

"At its best, Until Dawn is a gleefully cheesy homage to horror movies, set in a world built by a developer that clearly adores the genre. Although its thrills are tempered by a lack of story cohesion, its robust choice-and-consequence system and keen eye on horror’s most ridiculous tropes makes Until Dawn ultimately worth playing."
