CD Projekt Red, the developers behind The Witcher series, have issued a crucial warning to fans about a scam involving fake beta test invitations for The Witcher 4. Dive into the details of their statement and discover their exciting decision to feature Ciri as the main protagonist in the upcoming game.
The Witcher 4 developer, CD Projekt Red, has taken to social media to alert players about a widespread scam involving fake beta test invitations for The Witcher 4. On April 16, CD Projekt Red used The Witcher’s official X (formerly Twitter) account to address the issue, stating, "We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. That said, if you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, we kindly ask you to report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using."
They emphasized that any future legitimate beta tests would be announced first through The Witcher’s official channels.
The Witcher 4 was first unveiled to the public during the Game Awards in December 2024, accompanied by a trailer that introduced Ciri as the new protagonist, sparking widespread discussion among fans. Traditionally, Geralt has been the central figure in the series, making Ciri's role a significant shift.
In an interview with VGC, The Witcher 4 Narrative Director Phillipp Weber addressed the fan reactions to this change. He acknowledged the love for Geralt but reassured fans that the team has been working on Ciri's story for a long time, aiming to create a compelling narrative. Weber stated, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."
The Witcher 4 Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, also expressed appreciation for the fans' support and their passionate feedback. He commented, "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released."
CD Projekt Red promises that The Witcher 4 will be the most ambitious installment in the series, featuring new regions and monsters. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though no specific release date has been announced yet.
