Disney Lorcana enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to with the recent unveiling of exciting details about the future of this beloved trading card game. The ninth set, titled Fabled, is set to launch on September 5, 2025, and promises to introduce the first-ever Iconic and Epic cards, along with the much-anticipated inclusion of A Goofy Movie.
In addition to Fabled, the eighth set, Reign of Jafar, is slated for a June 6 debut, and a new Collection Starter Set was introduced. Fans also received updates on the Disney Lorcana World Championship and tantalizing teases about future sets, including the addition of Darkwing Duck. Let's dive into these announcements to ensure you stay updated on all the exciting developments.
While details on Fabled are still emerging, the anticipation is building as the Disney Lorcana team has shared some tantalizing previews. The set will be available for pre-release on August 29 and a wide release on September 5. One of the major highlights is the introduction of A Goofy Movie cards, although specific card details remain under wraps. The team did confirm that Mickey and Minnie will feature as the inaugural Iconic Cards.
Iconic Cards will be the rarest cards in Lorcana, with only two included in each set moving forward. The debut Iconic Cards will showcase Mickey and Minnie on a carousel, making them highly sought-after collectibles. Additionally, Epic Cards will be introduced, which are rarer than Legendary but less scarce than Enchanted and Iconic cards. These will feature unique artwork and foil treatments, with an example being a new Elsa (Snow Queen) card.
A significant change with Fabled is the introduction of card rotation for competitive play. The top-level competitive format, known as Core Constructed, will no longer allow the use of cards from the first four sets. However, fans of older cards can still enjoy them in a new format called Infinity Constructed. Fabled will also introduce reprinted cards from earlier sets, such as Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard), which will remain legal for competitive play.
Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger, emphasized the importance of card rotation: “To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards to encourage new strategies and fresh deck designs is a really important part of the next chapter. But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to a lot of fans’ deck-building strategies, and we know not everybody got the cards they wanted the first year, we’re re-printing some cards from those first sets in Fabled. Including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!”
For newcomers, the team has introduced the Collection Starter Set, which includes four Fabled booster packs, a Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) "Glimmer Foil" Promo Card, a card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor), and a collector's guide.
Reign of Jafar, the eighth set, is scheduled for a pre-release on May 30 and a wide release on June 6. This set will continue the ongoing narrative featuring the Disney villain Jafar, who now possesses the Hexwell Crown and has corrupted Archazia’s Island.
The official description states, "Jafar now possesses the Hexwell Crown and, with it, he has corrupted Archazia’s Island to his wicked will. Traps and illusions abound in Reign of Jafar, and glimmers like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber will need to band together to steal back the crown and defeat the evil vizier."
Alongside Reign of Jafar, fans can look forward to Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist, a new co-op experience that allows four players to team up and challenge Jafar and his minions. The set will feature cards such as Bambi (Prince of the Forest), Flower (Shy Skunk), Thumper (Young Bunny), Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana), Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug), Aladdin (Vigilant Guard), and more.
Disney has also teased the set following Fabled, named Whispers in the Well, set to release in Q4 2025. While details are sparse, key art revealed Mickey, Ariel, and hinted at the inclusion of Disney Gargoyles in Lorcana, along with a new type of Glimmer.
Looking further ahead, the team confirmed that Darkwing Duck will join Lorcana in 2026, answering the long-standing requests from fans.
The competitive scene for Disney Lorcana is ramping up with the announcement of the Disney Lorcana World Championship, set to take place on June 28 and 29 at Walt Disney World. This prestigious event will crown the first annual Disney Lorcana TCG World Champion, attracting players from around the globe.
For those unable to attend, the tournament will be streamed live on Twitch.TV/DisneyLorcana, with commentary from a talented team of casters including Rebekah (RebekahQuests), Baker (LorcanaVillain), Liam (The Illumiteers), Brandon (Bsquared24), and JD (JDZ Quest). During the championship, fans will have a chance to obtain a non-foil 'A Whole New World' promo card, with more details to be announced soon.
