Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly set to leave EA-owned BioWare in the coming weeks, according to Eurogamer. Busche served as game director from February 2022 until the game's launch last October. IGN has reached out to EA for comment on this development.

Since its release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has faced scrutiny over its success. Eurogamer noted that while Busche is departing, the studio remains otherwise unaffected by significant changes. Busche joined BioWare in 2019 after working at Maxis on The Sims projects. Her role in steering Dragon Age: The Veilguard to completion during its final development years was crucial, especially after a major reset that transformed the game from a multiplayer concept to a full single-player RPG.

Eurogamer has stated that Busche's departure from BioWare is not connected to the commercial performance of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. EA has yet to disclose whether the game's sales and revenue met expectations, with the company set to release its Q3 2025 financial results on February 4.

BioWare has confirmed that it will not produce any DLC for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, instead shifting focus to Mass Effect 5, which has been teased but not fully revealed yet.

In August 2023, amidst the release of Larian's successful Baldur’s Gate 3, BioWare laid off approximately 50 employees, including veteran narrative designer Mary Kirby. These layoffs occurred during a broader restructuring at EA, which divided the company into sports and other divisions. Rumors of BioWare's potential acquisition circulated, and Star Wars: The Old Republic was transitioned to a third-party to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The reveal of Dragon Age: The Veilguard in 2024 was met with mixed reactions. The initial trailer received negative feedback, prompting BioWare to quickly release an early gameplay teaser. The change of the game's title from Dreadwolf to The Veilguard also stirred some controversy, though subsequent impressions were more positive.

As BioWare navigates these changes, Dragon Age fans are left pondering whether the studio will have the opportunity to develop another sequel following The Veilguard.
