Dune: Awakening's sandworms: A force of nature, not a player's tool. Unlike the novels, players can't summon sandworms at will. The developers have confirmed that these colossal creatures are non-player characters (NPCs) with predetermined paths, schedules, and behaviors integrated into the game's engine.

While you can't summon them strategically, actions like moving through the sand or using a thumper might attract a nearby sandworm's attention. However, this isn't a guaranteed method. Furthermore, riding sandworms, a hallmark of the Freman culture in the books and films, won't be a feature in the initial release. The developers attribute this omission to considerations from the Dune film franchise.

Future updates might introduce more Freman-centric content, potentially including sandworm riding. However, this remains uncertain for now.

Dune: Awakening launches on PC May 20th, with console releases planned for later.
