Funcom, the developer behind the highly anticipated Dune: Awakening, has shared exciting updates about the game's business model and post-launch plans. The studio confirmed that the game will launch fully on May 20, bypassing the Early Access phase. This multiplayer survival game, inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novel and its movie adaptations, will not require a subscription, despite its classification as an MMO.
Instead of a subscription model, Funcom plans to enrich Dune: Awakening through free updates that will introduce new content and features. The game will also adopt a "classic business model" featuring optional DLCs. Funcom has a strong track record of supporting its MMOs, such as Anarchy Online and Conan Exiles, with ongoing free updates, DLCs, and expansions. They assure that Dune: Awakening will follow suit, continually expanding with free updates that bring new content, features, and enhancements.
The standard edition of Dune: Awakening is priced at $49.99. For those looking for more, the Deluxe Edition ($69.99) and Ultimate Edition ($89.99) offer additional perks, including a five-day head start and various unique items. Both the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions include the Season Pass, which grants access to four DLCs over time, with the first one available at launch.
The Deluxe Edition includes the armor of the Sardaukar, the elite military force that hunts players in the game. The Ultimate Edition encompasses all Deluxe Edition content, plus Paul Atreides’ iconic stillsuit from the 2021 film, a digital artbook, a digital soundtrack, unique color patterns, and the Caladan Palace Set, which includes building pieces, placeables, and decorations.
Pre-ordering any edition of the game rewards players with a universal color pattern applicable to vehicles, weapons, and armor, as well as the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, an in-base decoration featuring the iconic desert mouse.

Funcom also outlined Dune: Awakening's PC features and system requirements. The game supports advanced graphics technologies such as Nvidia’s DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, AMD’s FSR, and Intel’s XeSS 2.
