Though Head Starters have had access to Arrakis since June 5, Dune: Awakening officially launched for all players yesterday, June 10. Within hours of going live, Funcom's expansive survival MMO achieved an impressive milestone, reaching over 142,000 concurrent players on Steam—142,050 to be exact.

This remarkable player turnout placed Dune: Awakening as the ninth most-played game on Steam in the past 24 hours. As the game moves into its first full weekend post-launch, expectations are high that these numbers will rise even further, potentially leading to a new peak in concurrent players by Saturday or Sunday.

Prior to launch, Funcom announced that the console version of Dune: Awakening is now delayed until sometime in 2026. Meanwhile, players have already begun discovering unanticipated features, such as the ability to ride sandworms—an unofficial but thrilling exploit uncovered shortly after release.
