The buzz for a Final Fantasy 9 (FF9) remake has been reignited as Square Enix updates its 25th anniversary website with new profiles for beloved characters such as Zidane, Vivi, Garnet, and Steiner. These updates have sparked intense speculation among fans about an imminent FF9 remake.
Earlier this year, the launch of FF9's 25th anniversary website alone was enough to stir the pot of speculation. The excitement only grew when Square Enix shared a quote from Vivi, the iconic black mage, on Twitter.
The latest update features small icons of four out of the eight main characters on the website. Clicking these icons reveals brief descriptions accompanied by new artwork from FF9's character designer, Toshiyuki Itahana, who is also known for his work on the Crystal Chronicles and Chocobo series. These descriptions encapsulate each character's essence and their narrative goals.
While no official confirmation has been made, the meticulous attention to detail in these anniversary updates has fans buzzing with anticipation for a major announcement related to the title. For now, FF9 enthusiasts eagerly await further news on a possible remake.
New Merch Available
In addition to the website updates, Square Enix has expanded its 25th anniversary merchandise lineup for FF9. New items include a replica of Garnet's necklace, Vivi's wearable hat, and a set of acrylic standees, among other collectibles.
Garnet's Silver Necklace is now open for reservations and is slated for release on November 15, priced at around 38,500 yen, or approximately $260. Vivi's hat, a must-have for fans, is also available for pre-order with an expected release date of September 6, costing about 17,600 yen, or roughly $120.
The FF9 Acrylic Stand Collection, featuring eight distinct designs, is offered in blind boxes, adding an element of surprise for collectors.
With these extensive preparations and the release of new merchandise, the anticipation for an FF9 remake feels palpable. Despite Square Enix's silence on the matter, the community remains hopeful that their cherished journey through Gaia will be reborn in a new form.
