FromSoftware's acclaimed Sekiro franchise is making a comeback in an unexpected form – not as a sequel, but as a Crunchyroll anime adaptation set to premiere in 2026.
Originally published by Activision in 2019, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice achieved both critical praise and commercial success, eventually selling over 10 million copies. While fans have awaited a sequel, FromSoftware instead focused on developing the phenomenally successful Elden Ring.
The anime adaptation, titled Sekiro: No Defeat, promises to bring the game's intense swordplay and rich lore to life through traditional hand-drawn animation. Announced through a collaboration between Kadokawa, Qzil.la, and ARCH, the series will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll in most international markets.
"Painstakingly crafted to honor the original, Sekiro: No Defeat adapts the game's compelling narrative – a story of honor and vengeance set in a mythical version of Sengoku-period Japan."
Director Kenichi Kutsuna describes the ambitious vision:
"We're undertaking the colossal challenge of translating Sekiro's stunning visuals into animation. Every frame reflects our deepest artistic commitment to preserve the game's aesthetic brilliance while creating something entirely new. This adaptation will resonate equally with longtime fans and newcomers to the Sekiro universe."
