Season 5: A Final Farewell

Season 5, launching February 4, 2025, will introduce Aquaman and Lola Bunny as playable characters, both unlockable through gameplay. All new Season 5 content will be obtainable without additional purchases. Following the season's conclusion, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. No official reason for the shutdown has been provided.

A local gameplay mode will allow continued offline play, either solo against AI or with up to three friends. To access this, players must download the latest version of the game between February 4th and May 30th, 2025. The game will automatically create a local save file linked to the player's account, preserving all earned and purchased content.

Real-money transactions ceased on January 31, 2025. Remaining Gleamium can be used until the end of Season 5.

A Brief History and Challenges

Initially launched in July 2022 as a public beta, MultiVersus aimed to offer a unique team-based 2v2 fighting experience. A relaunch in May 2024 introduced new features, including characters, rollback netcode, and a PvE mode. However, the game faced ongoing challenges, including technical issues, frequent disconnections, and player dissatisfaction with microtransactions. Reportedly, player counts significantly decreased in July 2024.

At its closure, MultiVersus will boast 35 playable characters. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support. The game will remain available for download until May 30, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
