Garena's Free Fire Returns to India With New Event

• Free Fire is making a major comeback in India with a new competitive tournament.
• The Free Fire Max India Cup features a substantial prize pool.
• This marks Garena's strategic move to compete with Krafton's leading position in BGMI.

It feels like a lifetime since a wave of gaming bans impacted India, stemming from international diplomatic tensions that also affected the mobile industry. Now, with PUBG Mobile already back in action, Garena Free Fire is storming back into the spotlight with the launch of a premier Indian tournament!

The Free Fire MAX India Cup 2025 is scheduled from July 13th to September 28th and offers a prize pool of one crore Rupees (a significantly larger amount than it may initially seem). This event represents Free Fire India's first major competitive tournament since its suspension three years ago.

Garena's strong push to re-enter the Indian market is a logical step. India leads globally in mobile game downloads, with 8.45 billion recorded between 2024 and 2025. Battle royale titles like Garena Free Fire and the previously mentioned Battlegrounds Mobile India consistently rank among the most popular games.

A New Chapter for Tournaments

Free Fire's significant return goes beyond simply being accessible to players again. Since its comeback, BGMI has dominated India's esports landscape. Given the country's deep passion for competitive gaming, this has provided Krafton with a considerable advantage.

In this context, Free Fire's new tournament is clearly designed to showcase Garena's ambitious plans for mobile gaming supremacy in India. With Free Fire also set to appear at the Esports World Cup later this year, the company is keen to generate positive attention for its competitive gaming initiatives.
