Fallout 76 Season 20 Out Now

Unleash the Ghoul Within

In the latest update for Fallout 76, players have the thrilling opportunity to transform into a Ghoul and explore the wasteland in a whole new way. Bethesda announced on March 18 that Season 20: The Ghoul Within is now live, introducing a host of ghoul-specific features, mechanics, and stylish new cosmetics to customize your C.A.M.P.

To become a Ghoul, players must embark on the "Leap of Faith" questline, which leads to a previously unexplored area of the Savage Divide. Here, players will encounter new characters who assist in the Ghoulification process. As a Ghoul, you'll unlock unique abilities like Glow and Feral, along with 30 exclusive Perks.

The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a meter that, when filled, provides various boosts. However, if the meter drops to 0%, you'll experience dramatic gameplay changes: "At 0%: you gain +150% Melee Damage, and lose -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."

On the other hand, the Glow ability allows you to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and even causes you to emit a glow. This ability not only increases your maximum health and heals damage but also enhances the effects of Ghoul-exclusive Perks, or "Gherks" as Bethesda dubs them.

You can choose from 28 Perks and two new legendary Perks designed specifically for Ghouls. Note that Perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are not available to Ghouls, as these benefits are irrelevant to their new state.

A Day In The Life of A Ghoul

Navigating the radiation-filled wasteland becomes easier as a Ghoul, thanks to the new abilities and Gherks. However, be aware that certain factions, like the Brotherhood of Steel, may become hostile towards Ghouls, potentially blocking access to some questlines.

To overcome this, players can seek assistance from Jaye, a new NPC who provides disguises that allow interaction with content otherwise restricted to Ghouls. If the Ghoul life doesn't suit you, you can revert to human form via the Character Screen. This change is permanent, but you can retransform into a Ghoul for 1000 Atoms.

For both new and seasoned players, Fallout 76 offers a Level 50 Character Boost with the Season 20 update. Available for 1500 Atoms, this boost accelerates your progress, enabling quick access to multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and key story content.

The update also includes various bug fixes and balance adjustments, such as improvements to accessibility, combat balancing, and weapon damage modifications. Bethesda has also announced an upcoming update, "The Big Bloom," set for April 29, as part of their seasonal roadmap.

Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has faced its share of challenges but has steadily improved, earning a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam with 76% positive reviews. The game is playable on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
