The HP OMEN MAX 16 Ryzen Edition RTX 5080 Gaming Laptop Drops to $1,699.99 for Black Friday

HP just dropped a last-minute Black Friday deal on one of its most powerful gaming laptops. The OMEN MAX 16 with RTX 5080 is now priced at just $1,699.99 after a $1,300 instant discount and an extra $100 off with coupon code "GOBBLE100". This is unquestionably the cheapest RTX 5080 laptop available this Black Friday. The RTX 5080 is a powerhouse mobile GPU that outperforms last year’s top model, the RTX 4090.

HP notes on the page that this "Flash deal" ends tonight at midnight PT.

New for 2025, the OMEN MAX 16 improves upon the OMEN 16 with better build quality and enhanced cooling. Unlike the OMEN 16, the OMEN MAX 16 features an almost all-aluminum body, including the top lid and chassis. The only exception is the palm rest, which remains plastic to keep it comfortable during extended use. It also introduces the new OMEN Tempest Cooling Pro system, combining vapor chamber cooling, a reengineered fan layout, and improved thermal interface material to maximize heat dissipation. This keeps the OMEN MAX 16 cool during long gaming sessions and ensures the latest GPUs run at peak performance without throttling.

This specific model includes a 16" 2560x1600 display, an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 CPU, a GeForce RTX 5080 mobile GPU, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. Both memory and storage are user-upgradable. The AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 is a 12-core, 24-thread Zen 5 processor with a 5.1GHz max boost clock—excellent for gaming, though the dedicated NPUs (the reason for the "AI" name) are mostly irrelevant for gamers.

The GeForce RTX 5080 mobile GPU outperforms the RTX 4090

The OMEN MAX 16 can support the RTX 5080 mobile GPU without thermal throttling. The RTX 5080 delivers roughly 15% to 20% more performance than the RTX 4080 it replaces—and even edges past the RTX 4090, which was last generation’s flagship. It easily handles the latest demanding titles like Ghost of Yotei, Battlefield 6, and Borderlands 4 at 60fps or higher on the 1600p display. You can even turn on ray tracing and still enjoy smooth gameplay—something nearly impossible in laptops just a few years ago.
