Jack Black Builds Mansion on Private Minecraft Movie Server

The recently released *A Minecraft Movie* has taken an innovative approach to authenticity by creating a private Minecraft server for its cast and crew. This immersive experience allowed everyone involved to dive deep into the world of Minecraft, enhancing the film's connection to the beloved game. Jack Black, who portrays Steve in the movie, embraced this opportunity wholeheartedly, constructing a grand mansion atop the highest mountain within the server. This mansion, complete with a basement art gallery, was his way of proving his dedication as a "real Minecrafter."

Producer Torfi Frans Ólafsson shared with IGN that having Minecraft readily available fostered a dynamic, indie game studio-like atmosphere on set. While not every idea generated could be incorporated into the film due to its ongoing development, the server allowed for creative additions that added authenticity and flair to the movie. Director Jared Hess praised Black's commitment, noting his methodical approach to playing the game, from harvesting resources like lapis lazuli to constantly building and contributing ideas.

Jack Black himself humorously remarked on his preparation, stating, "I had an Xbox in my trailer and I did play because *an actor prepares.*" He aimed to stand out among the cast and crew by building his impressive mansion, which included a stairway to Steve and an art gallery in the basement. Ólafsson confirmed that the mansion remains accessible on the server, even noting that security guards from the set continue to explore it.
