DCU head James Gunn has hinted at a notable cameo in the closing episodes of Peacemaker Season 2, keeping mum on whether it ties to the Superman film or another figure from the revamped DCU.
The upcoming Superman movie, slated for release before Peacemaker Season 2, hits theaters this summer, with the latter debuting on HBO Max (now reverted to its original name) on August 21, 2025. Supergirl is set for June 26, 2026, while the Lanterns TV series lacks a confirmed date. Both take place in-universe after Superman and Peacemaker Season 2.
This month, Max unveiled a new Peacemaker Season 2 trailer, showcasing Superman’s supporting cast—Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner—questioning Peacemaker’s fit for their team. The exchange doesn’t go smoothly for him.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn emphasized that Peacemaker Season 2 is “tightly linked to Superman and builds toward future DCU projects,” with additional connections layered in.
“The Quantum Unfolding Chamber, or QUC, introduced in Peacemaker’s first season, plays a bigger role in Superman,” Gunn revealed.
“The QUC drives the narrative in Peacemaker Season 2. You’ll see familiar faces from Superman, like Isabela, Nathan, and Sean, alongside other DCU characters later in the season. There’s even a chance for a massive cameo toward the finale,” he added.
Gunn noted that Peacemaker Season 2 takes place a few years after the first season’s conclusion, though the DCU timeline remains fluid. “Having worked at Marvel, I know how tricky it is to align everything perfectly, so we’re keeping it to a rough couple of years,” he said.

Recent months have highlighted a range of characters appearing across Superman, Peacemaker Season 2, Supergirl, and Lanterns. This overlap raises questions: will the DCU adopt a chronological timeline like Marvel Studios’ MCU on Disney+?
When asked on social media, Gunn clarified that, for now, the DCU timeline follows the release order of its films and shows.
“Currently, it’s based on release order, with some flashbacks—Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker, Lanterns, Supergirl,” Gunn explained.
Disney+ organizes Marvel projects in a clear, canonical timeline. While Gunn’s comments suggest HBO Max may not follow suit yet, a similar approach could emerge as the DCU expands.
Other DCU projects in development include Clayface, set for release on September 11, 2026. The Authority film, however, faces challenges, and Gunn has acknowledged setbacks with the Peacemaker spinoff Waller. Meanwhile, HBO Max’s Booster Gold is progressing well, and Paradise Lost remains a key focus, according to Gunn.
Regarding crossover characters, fans are curious about how Superman will handle its ensemble. The latest trailer featured everyone from Mister Terrific to The Engineer, plus newcomers like The Hammer of Boravia and the enigmatic Ultraman.
