Nintendo has secretly tucked away its beloved recurring Easter egg in their new Mario Kart World title for Switch 2, eagle-eyed players have revealed.
The legendary Totaka's Song - a musical Easter egg that's popped up in dozens of Nintendo titles over decades - makes its latest appearance. This time, it's hidden in the character selection screen when players linger on Yoshi.
If you park your cursor on the loveable green dinosaur and wait patiently, you'll be rewarded as he starts bopping his head and eventually humming that instantly recognizable tune.
Redditor charizardtelephone shared their unexpected find: "I was just messing around on the character select screen when Mario suddenly started humming after sitting idle. That made me wonder... if there are other hidden tunes. Then it hit me - Yoshi? Hidden music? This had to be the Totaka song!"
The song snippet has since gone viral across gaming communities, with many fans rushing to test it themselves.
Legendary Nintendo composer Kazumi Totaka (the voice behind Yoshi) has been sneaking variations of this melody into games he's worked on for years. From casual titles like Wii Sports to major franchises like Smash Bros., this musical signature pops up when least expected.
"I waited a bit longer," charizardtelephone explained, "and sure enough Yoshi started humming that classic tune just like in Mario Kart 8. Such a brilliant little Easter egg - I might be the first to spot it!"
While the discovery spreads online, Mario Kart World continues dominating Japanese sales charts, outperforming even Breath of the Wild's launch numbers for the original Switch. Bundled with the new console, it's proving to be Nintendo's first major hit for Switch 2. The gaming giant is set to reveal more about its next big title, Donkey Kong Bananza, in an upcoming Nintendo Direct presentation.
